Patriots QB Tom Brady said during an interview with Jim Gray of Westwood One Sports radio on Monday that intends to return for the 2019 season.
“I absolutely believe I will,” Brady responded. “I know I’ve talked about it a long time. I have goals to play not only next year but beyond that. And I’m going to try to do it as best as I possibly can. I’m going to give it everything I have, like I always have. It will certainly be a challenge. I don’t take any of these things for granted. But I hope I can keep playing. I hope I can keep playing at a championship level.”
Brady explained that football is what he loves and he’s thankful to be able to play the game for as long as he has.
“I’ve been able to be in a career for 19 years that I love,” Brady said, per Mike Reiss. “I wake up every day excited to go to work … fulfilled … I don’t think there’s any greater gift in my life than to have that … In my heart and soul, I love playing the sport of football.”
The Patriots still don’t have a clear succession plan for Brady in place, so it would not be surprising at all to see him back for the 2019ย season.
Brady, 41, is a former sixth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2000. He signed a two-year, $41 million contract extension with the Patriots back in 2016, which included a $28 million signing bonus. Brady stands to make a base salary of just $15 million in both 2018 and 2019.
In 2018, Brady has appeared in 15 games for the Patriots and completed 65.4 percent of their passes for 4,105 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
