Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers are trading RB Matt Breida to the Dolphins in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round pick.
Back in March, the 49ers were reportedly open to discussing trade offers for Breida given their depth at his position, so this is something to still keep an eye on. (NFLTR)
Earlier this week, Breida said that he thought the 49ers would like all of their running backs to be on their roster for 2020, but it seems their backfield was too crowded.
โI think they want a lot of the guys back, so theyโre going to do whatever they can to keep everyone back,โ Breida said on KNBR. โIโm just going to sit here, wait, and see what happens. But Iโve got a good feeling weโre all going to be back.โ
Breida, 25, wound up going undrafted out of Georgia Southern back in 2017 and finished a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the 49ers this offseason. He’s in line to be an unrestricted free agent in 2021.
49ers placed a second-round tender on Breida and he is set to make $3.27 million for the 2020 season.
In 2019, Breida appeared in 13 games for the 49ers and rushed for 623 yards on 123 carries (5.1 YPC) to go along with 19 receptions for 120 yards receiving and two total touchdowns.
