Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer, citing multiple league sources, reports that the Bengals are trading LB Marquis Flowers to the Patriots in return for a 2018 seventh-round pick.
Owczarski mentions that Flowers was on the roster bubble this year and by trading him to New England, it could open a spot for undrafted LB Hardy Nickerson.
Given that Flowers was fighting for a roster spot this summer, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this seventh-round pick end up being conditional upon Flowers actually making the Patriots’ final roster.
Flowers, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Bengals back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2,298,680 contract and set to make a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.
In 2016, Flowers appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and recorded eight tackles and no sacks.
