Vikings Sign WR Charles Johnson Off Browns’ Practice Squad

The Minnesota Vikings announced Saturday that they have signed WR Charles Johnson off the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad.

Johnson, 25, is a former seventh-round pick of the Green Bay Packers. He was unable to make the Packers’ 53-man roster during his rookie year and wound up on their practice squad. However, Cleveland later signed him to their active roster, but upon his arrival, it was discovered that he had a torn ACL.

The Browns placed him on the NFI list for most of the 2013 season.

It appeared as though Johnson was going to make the Browns 53-man roster a few weeks ago, but he was later waived and signed to their practice squad.

Vikings OC Norv Turner was with the Browns last year, so he’s familiar with Johnson. The Vikings cut veteran Jerome Simpson earlier in the week, so they could probably use another receiver.
