A.J. Smith and the San Diego Chargers have put an end to a trade that was agreed upon by Vincent Jacksonโs agents and an unnamed team, per a league source that told ESPN.com. Jacksonโs agents supposedly had a contract agreement in place with the unnamed team before the Chargers and unnamed team reached an impasse over trade compensation, according to the source.
The Chargers obviously view Jackson as a top talent and want to be compensated for such talent even though he will not be available for six games this season. Like me mentioned earlier today, the team has more leverage than Jackson because of the compensatory pick that they will receive when Jackson leaves in the offseason.

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post Dispatch was the reporter who brought us yesterdayโs โVincent Jackson to the Ramsโ rumor. He has now gotten word from team sources that the Rams have decided to pass on pursuing Jackson.
Jacksonโs deadline for a trade and sign passed yesterday with very little news surrounding him and the Chargers. Because no deal was reached, Jackson now has roster-exemption status along with a three-game suspension which should drive his asking price down.
The same old teams seem to be best matches for a trade. The Vikings, Redskins, and Seahawks have all expressed interest and have even made some attempts to work out a deal. Minnesota cut four wide-receivers yesterday including Javon Walker who was just brought in which could mean that they willing to make a run at a wide-receiver.
One thing to consider is that Chargers GM A.J. Smith is unlikely to sell low on a talented receiver considering that he could get a compensatory pick next season when Jackson signs elsewhere. Itโs shaping up like there is a really good chance that Jackson sits the season out.

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch brings us latest Vincent Jackson rumor by suggesting that the Rams could be in the mix for the wide-receiver. Thomas sites two unnamed sources that believe that Rams could be a player for Jackson. Not the most concrete rumor but the Rams have been mentioned as an option for the Chargers and this is the first source that Iโve come across that backs this up.
Things have been surprisingly slow on the Vincent Jackson front today which suggests that there is definitely more to come on this subject later.
