Bills Not Looking To Move Veteran Players Including DE Jerry Hughes

League sources tell Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports that the odds of the Bills trading any of their veteran players in the coming weeks are “very slim.

The Bills did speak to the Eagles earlier this week about RB LeSean McCoy, but La Canfora says that talks were brief and they never got close to a deal.

In fact, La Canfora mentions that the Bills are not looking to trade McCoy or DE Jerry Hughes, who has also come up as a speculative trade candidate, as they’re both considered important veterans and signed to team-friendly deals beyond this season.

The Bills were very active in reshaping their roster last year after they hired Sean McDermott and brought in Brandon Beane as GM. However, it appears as though the teardown is over and they’re now looking to focus on building their core while maintaining valuable players.

Hughes, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Colts back in 2010. He spent three years in Indianapolis before he was traded to the Bills in 2013 for Kelvin Sheppard.

Hughes is in the fourth year of his five-year, $45 million contract that included $22.15 million guaranteed and set to make base salaries of $6.35 million over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Hughes has appeared in five games for the Bills and recorded 18 tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles.
