Cardinals Still Interested In TE Chris Cooley Despite Signing Jermaine Gresham

Mike Jurecki of ESPN 910 reports that the Cardinals still have free agent TE Chris Cooley on their radar even after they signed Jermaine Gresham to a one-year deal last week.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter citing a league source, reported close to a week ago that the Cardinals had spoken to Cooley and expressed interest in signing him to a contract.

This came just a day after Cooley said that he would consider returning to the NFL if an opportunity presented itself.

“If I went to camp, I could be anybody’s third tight end, worst case,” Cooley said, via the Washington Post. “I have no doubt. Any team in the NFL, I could be their third tight end. There’s not a question in my mind.

While Cooley “absolutely” would listen if a team called, but also acknowledged that the idea “seems far-fetched to anybody else.”

Cooley, 33, hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2012 season with the Redskins. That year, Cooley was limited to appearing in just eight games and recording a single catch for eight yards receiving.

We’ll have more regarding Cooley returning to the NFL as the news is available.
