Depositions In Colin Kaepernick Collusion Case Against NFL Could Begin In February

Jason La Canfora reports that Colin Kaepernick‘s collusion case against the NFL is likely to begin in early 2018.

Kaepernick’s legal team has already requested access to the emails and texts from league and team executives, coaches, owners among others as part of the discovery process for his collusion grievance.

The NFL was given a list of search terms that may bring back potential evidence from those electronic records and La Canfora reports that the league has complied with this request and in turn compiled over a thousand documents that contain those terms such as “Kaepernick,” “Anthem” and “workout.”

The two parties will now have to schedule a date in which Kaepernick’s lawyers can sift through all of the evidence provided to formulate their case against the league.

According to La Canfora, no official hearing dates have been set yet, but there is an expectation that depositions could begin taking place by February of next year.

Several notable figures are expected to be deposed and asked to turn over information including:

  1. Roger Goodell
  2. Jerry Jones (Cowboys)
  3. Robert Kraft (Patriots)
  4. Bob McNair (Texans)
  5. Paul Allen (Seahawks)
  6. Jed York (49ers)
  7. Jim Irsay (Colts)
  8. VP of football operations Troy Vincent
  9. Senior VP of player engagement Arthur McAfee
  10. Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch

A source with knowledge of the situation told Florio that the straw for Kaepernick came after the Titans snubbed him and instead worked out Brandon Weeden, Matt Barkley, Matt McGloin, and T.J. Yates following the injury to Marcus Mariota.

Kaepernick, 30, is a former second-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He was in the third year of his seven-year, $126.97 million contract that included $61 million guaranteed when reached an agreement with the 49ers on a restructured deal.

Kaepernick visited with the Seahawks a few months ago but left Seattle without an agreement.

In 2016, Kaepernick has completed 59.2 percent of his passes for 2,241 yards and 16 touchdowns and four interceptions, while adding 468 yards rushing. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 27 quarterback out of 36 qualifying players.
