Jets Releasing Veteran K Cairo Santos

Adam Schefter reports that the Jets are releasing veteran K Cairo Santos on Wednesday.

A source tells Schefter that Santos is finally healthy, but they “just haven’t been able to see enough of him.”

Santos had reportedly been dealing with a “chronic groin injury.”

The Jets claimed K Jason Myers off of waivers a few days ago and are bringing in Kai Forbath for a workout on Wednesday, so they’re clearly going in a different direction at kicker.

Santos, 26, wound up signing on with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Tulane back in 2014. He returned to the Chiefs this past March on a one-year restricted deal worth $1.797 million.

Kansas City elected to place him on injured reserve with a groin strain at the start of the season and cut him loose with a settlement soon after. The Bears later signed him to a contract before placing him on injured reserve for the second time during the 2017 season.

The Jets signed Santos to a contract this past March.

In 2017, Santos appeared in five games and converted four of his five field goal attempts along with 14 of 14 extra point tries.
