Saints Sign QB Ryan Griffin To A Contract Extension

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported earlier in the day that the Saints have signed QB Ryan Griffin to a contract extension that will keep him under team control through the 2016 season.

  • New Orleans promoted Griffin to their active roster on Saturday.

This could be an indication that the Saints view Griffin as their backup quarterback moving forward.

Griffin, 25, signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Tulane last year, but hasn’t been able to win the backup job coming out of the preseason in either of the past two years.

New Orleans later signed him to their practice squad.

Over the course of his four-year career at Tulane, Griffin threw for 9,026 yards while completing 59.9 percent of his passes to go along with 56 touchdowns and 35 interceptions.
