Deal Between Rams & Chargers To Move To LA Could Be Done In Two Weeks

Update:

Jason Cole of B/R, citing multiple NFL sources, reports that early negotiations between the Rams and Chargers for the two teams to relocate to Los Angeles have gone smoothly thus far.

According to Cole, the Rams actually want the Chargers to join them in Inglewood because they view the Raiders as more of a marketing challenge due to their history Los Angeles.

In the end, Cole expects a deal to be done between the Rams and Chargers at some point in the near future and as early as two weeks from now.

According to Jason Cole of B/R, the NFL is encouraging the Chargers owner Dean Spanos to move the team to Los Angeles.

However, there is still concern from the Chargers regarding Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s willingness to offer a fair deal for the two teams.

Cole mentions that the league feels like the Chargers would still generate more revenue in L.A. and in turn increase the value of the franchise with this move. The problem for the Chargers, according to Cole, is that Kroenke could overwhelm the Chargers in the L.A. market and leave them in a difficult financial situation in the long run.

The Chargers reportedly began negotiations with the Rams regarding a move to Inglewood on Monday.

Jason La Canfora reported yesterdayย that theย Rams and Chargers have started working to finalize deal that would allow the two teams to move to Inglewood and an agreement between the two teamsย could be in place by the end of the week.

Although, it sounds like there are still some serious concerns that need to be addressed.

It’s worth mentioning that the Chargers would need to make a decision soon if they want to be in L.A. for the 2016 season.

There is a pretty big incentive for Rams owner Stan Kroenke to get an agreement in place with the Chargers sooner than later, as this would allowย the Rams toย begin sellingย naming rights, club seats, PSLs, and sponsorshipsย at aย temporary stadium until 2017ย ifย they have an agreement withย a second team to join them in Inglewood.

The one aspect of this situation is whether Chargers owner Deanย Spanos will elect to be just aย tenant or a partner in the Inglewood project. To be a partner, Spanos would reportedly needย $500 million or more, according toย La Canfora.

The possibility exists that the Raiders could move to Los Angeles, but this would require the Chargers to pass on the opportunity, which doesn’t appear to be something they’re willing to do right now.

The L.A. Coliseum is reportedly open to hosting multiple teams in needed, so that could be a temporary home for the Chargers and Rams.

We’ll have more regarding the Chargers possibly moving to L.A. as the news is available.
