Chris Tomasson reports that the Vikings are trying to re-sign backup quarterback Trevor Siemian.
Tomasson notes that Vikings HC Mike Zimmer has indicated that he wants to have a veteran backup this season and Siemian does have prior starting experience.
Siemian, 27, is a former seventh-round pick of the Broncos back in 2015. Denver traded him tot he Vikings last year for a 2019 fifth-round pick.
Siemian played out the final year of his four-year, $2.33 million contract and is now testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.
In 2017, Siemian threw for 2,285 yards while completing 59 percent of his passes to go along with 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 36 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.
