The 49ers announced on Wednesday they’ve exercised the fifth-year option for DL DeForest Buckner.

It’s worth mentioning the fifth-year option is guaranteed for injury only until the first day of the 2020 league year. It also won’t prevent the two parties from working on an extension in the next year or so.
Buckner, 25, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2016. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $18.19 million contract and is set to make a base salary of $2.93 million for the 2019 season.
In 2018, Buckner has appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and recorded 67 tackles, 12 sacks, a fumble recovery and three pass defenses.
