49ers Exercise S Eric Reid’s Fifth-Year Option

The San Francisco 49ers elected to pick up S Eric Reid‘s fifth-year option on Monday, according to Ian Rapoport.

The fifth-year option will run the 49ers $5.6 million in 2017, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

Reid, 24, was taken with the No. 18 overall pick back in 2013. He’s in the final year of his four-year, $8.398 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,561,467 for the 2106 season.

In 2015, Reid appeared in 15 games for the 49ers and recorded 42 tackles, three interceptions, and seven pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 safety out of 89 qualifying players.
