Update:
The 49ers Thursday confirmed that S Jimmie Ward suffered a fractured collarbone during practice and is expected to be out 8-12 weeks.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that 49ers S Jimmie Ward suffered a shoulder injury while diving for a ball in OTAs Thursday and they fear he broke his collarbone.
Ward is undergoing x-rays to determine the severity of the injury.
The good news for Ward is that the timing of the injury at least keep open the possibility that he could be ready for the start of the season, depending on the tests.
Ward, 27, was taken with the No. 30 overall pick back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.112 million contract when the 49ers picked up Ward’s fifth-year option for the 2018 season.
Ward closed out the year on the injured reserve after sustaining a broken forearm. He returned to the 49ers on a one-year contract worth $5 million this past March.
In 2018, Ward appeared in nine games and recorded 24 tackles, no interceptions, and a forced fumble recovery.
