49ers Hiring Tony Oden As New Secondary Coach

According to Ian Rapoport, the 49ers are hiring former Dolphins DB coach Tony Oden to be their new secondary coach.

Oden was one of the options considered to fill the vacancy left by former DB coach Joe Woods — now the defensive coordinator for the Browns.

Oden, 46, got his start in the NFL as a defensive assistant for the Texans in 2004. He was hired a couple of years later by the Saints as an assistant secondary coach.

Oden was promoted to New Orleans’ chief DB coach in 2011 and held the same position with the Jaguars (2012), Buccaneers (2013) and Lions (2014-2017). Oden was hired by the Dolphins for their DB coach position in 2018 before being let go after this past season.
