49ers Sign QB Tom Savage, Waive TE Cole Wick

Jordan Schultz reports that the 49ers have officially signed QB Tom Savage to a contract on Tuesday.

The 49ers confirmed the news and announced that they’ve waived TE Cole Wick.

Last night, Schultz mentioned that San Francisco adding Savage was “very likely” so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

The 49ers previously brought Savage in for a workout along with some other quarterbacks following the loss of Jimmy Garoppolo to a season-ending knee injury. However, indications were that Savage was likely to be added to their roster as C.J. Beatherd’s backup.

Savage, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Texans back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.52 million contract and made a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

The Saints signed Savage to a one-year, $1.5 million deal back in March, but was released coming out of the preseason.

In 2017, Savage appeared in eight games and completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 1412 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions. The Texans placed him on injured reserve after he suffered a scary concussion.
