ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this morning thatย 49ers OLBย Aldon Smithย will meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on August 8 in New York.
According to Schefter, Smith is facing aย “significant suspension” from the league.
Smith had a hearing inย Los Angeles on Wednesday regarding hisย arrest for allegedly making a bomb threat at LAX airport. Heย isn’t facing charges for this incident.
Smith is, however,ย facing felony gun charges and wasย arrested for DUI inย the past year, so it will be interesting to see what the league elects to do in regards to the 49ers outside linebacker.
San Francisco picked up Smith’s fifth-year option a few months ago, which is a pretty good indication that he remains in their long-term plans as long as he can prevent any new off-the-field issues from occurring.
Smith, 24, appeared in 11 games for theย 49ers last year and totaledย 34 tackles and 8.5 sacks.ย Pro Football Focusย had him rated as the No. 5 outside linebacker in a 3-4 system last year.
