Doug Kyed of NESN reports that the 49ers have placed DT Arik Armstead on injured reserve Tuesday.
This creates a roster spot for DT Chris Jones, who was claimed off waivers from the Dolphins.
Armstead, 22, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in May of last year. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $9.84 million contract and set to make a base salary of $882,392 for the 2016 season.
In 2016, Armstead appeared in eight games for the 49ers and recorded 15 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 85 interior defensive lineman out of 119 qualifying players.
