49ers Officially Sign WRs Tavon Austin & J.J. Nelson

Update:

The San Francisco 49ers have officially signed WR Tavon Austin and J.J. Nelson to contracts on Saturday, as both players are practicing with the team, per Matt Maiocco.

Both players worked for the 49ers on Thursday. 

San Francisco could use some depth at receiver with Deebo Samuel is likely to miss the start of the season.

Austin, 30, was the No. 8 overall pick back in 2013 for the then-St. Louis Rams. He signed a six-year, $56.14 million contract and was set to make base salaries of $3 million and $9.35 million over the next two years before he agreed to a pay cut in 2018.

The Cowboys traded a sixth-round pick for Austin in 2018. He re-signed with the team on a one-year deal in 2019. 

In 2019, Austin appeared in 14 games for the Cowboys.  He caught 13 passes for 177 yards receiving and one touchdown.  He also rushed six times for 47 yards.
