Field Yates reports that the 49ers have released TE Niles Paul and claimed TE Daniel Helm off of waivers from the Chargers on Friday.
Paul, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2011. He finished a three-year, $6 million contract with the Redskins before agreeing to a two-year, $8.75 million deal with the Jaguars last year.
However, Jacksonville cut Paul loose during the season. He signed on with the 49ers a week ago.
In 2018, Paul appeared in six games for the Jaguars and caught 10 passes for 98 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
