Ian Rapoport reports that the 49ers are re-signing DL Arik Armstead to a five-year deal worth up to $85 million.
Earlier today, Pro Football Talk reports that San Francisco was nearing a long-term deal with Armstead, so there was clear mutual interest in finalizing negotiations.
The 49ers were reportedly making “significant headway” on a long-term deal for Armstead this week and made retaining him their top priority this offseason.
Armstead, 26, is a former first-round pick out of Oregon by the 49ers in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was in the final year of his four-year, $9.84 rookie contract when the 49ers elected to pick up Armstead’s fifth-year option for the 2019 season.
Armstead was in line to be an unrestricted free agent in 2020 for the first time in his NFL career.
In 2019, Armstead appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and recorded 54 tackles, 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, a recovery and two passes defended.
