Hightower visited with the 49ers a few weeks ago and recently met with the Redskins, but it appears as though San Francisco wound up being his best option.
Hightower, 30, is a former fifth-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2008. He spent three years in Arizona before signing on with the Redskins in 2011.
Injuries got the best of Hightower and led to him being out of the league for three years before he signed on with the Saintsย back in 2015. Since then,ย Hightower has managed to resurrect his NFL career as a backup running back for New Orleans.
In 2016, Hightower appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and rushed for 548 yards on 133 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with 22 receptions for 200 yards receiving and five total touchdowns.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 57 running back out of 62 qualifying players.
