49ers HC Kyle Shanahan announced Monday that WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring strain) will be out for Week 8 and most likely against the Packers the week after, per Nick Wagoner.
Beyond that, Shanahan says they will place RB Jeff Wilson Jr. (ankle) on injured reserve later this week.
Shanahan did mention that RB Tevin Coleman could be back this week.
It’s worth mentioning that the NFL changed the rules regarding injured reserve for the 2020 season and players can return from the list in just three weeks.
Samuel sustained a broken foot back in June and was activated from their non-football injury list before being later placed on injured reserve at the start of the season. He later returned to the 49ers a few weeks ago.
Samuel, 24, was the No. 36 overall pick by the 49ers out of South Carolina in 2019. He’s entering the second year of a four-year, $7,697,356 rookie contract that includes a $3,618,076 signing bonus.
In 2020, Samuel has appeared in four games for the 49ers and caught 16 passes for 185 yards receiving and one touchdown.
Wilson, 25, wound up going undrafted out of North Texas back in 2018. He later signed a three-year, $1.71 million contract with the 49ers, but was waived coming out of the preseason.
Wilson has been on and off the 49ers practice squad and active roster the past few seasons, seeing spot duty as a reserve and special teamer due to injuries ahead of him on the depth chart.
In 2020, Wilson has appeared in 6 games for the 49ers and rushed for 163 yards on 38 carries (4.3 YPC) and four touchdowns to go along with six receptions for 75 yards receiving and one touchdown.
