According to Ian Rapoport, 49ers WR Marquise Goodwin is one name that has come up in recent trade talks around the league.
Rapoport notes that Goodwin is owed roughly $10 million over two years and with the young receivers emerging in San Francisco, it’s at least a possibility he could be moved this offseason.
Last week, 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan told reporters at the Combine that they won’t release Goodwin outright this offseason, given that they still value him as a player.
โWe wouldnโt release Marquise. Heโs too valuable,โ Shanahan said, via Matt Barrows of The Athletic. โI know he fell out of the rotation last year, then he had an injury (and) wanted to go on IR so he could get it cleaned up. I think it is right now. I havenโt seen him for a while. Marquise is a guy who can play in this league. If heโs on this team, heโs going to be competing with that group and, if not, I feel pretty confident another team would want him.โ
Shanahan was then asked if that meant they could be open trading Goodwin and he replied: โWe could, yeah.โ
โYou also donโt get rid of valuable people just for nothing,โ Shanahan said. โSo weโll have him come back and compete and if that doesnโt work out we could always possibly trade him. There are lots of things that are open. But I donโt know that exact answer yet.โ
Goodwin was placed on injured reserve in December of last year with knee and foot injuries.
Goodwin, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Bills back in 2013. He spent four years in Buffalo before signing a two-year contract with the 49ers last year worth up to $8 million.
Goodwin was set to make just $1.45 million for the 2018 season when he agreed to a three-year, $20.3 million extension with $10 million guaranteed.
According to OverTheCap.com, trading Goodwin would free up $3,656,250 of available cap space while creating $1.25 million in dead money.
In 2019, Goodwin appeared in nine games for the 49ers and caught 12 passes for 186 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 15 yards.
