AFC East Rumors: Dolphins, Jets, Patriots

Dolphins

  • According to Armando Salguero, the Dolphins could keep WR DeVante Parker on a one-year deal for around $2-$3 million after they likely rescind his fifth-year option.
  • Salguero also says he expects Miami to cut QB Ryan Tannehill and DE Robert Quinn before Wednesday after not being able to find any trade partners.

Jets

  • According to Peter King, “smart football people” believe the Jets are the leaders to sign RB Le’Veon Bell.
  • Manish Mehta mentions that former Chiefs OLB Justin Houston could be a target for the Jets now that’s available.
  • Tony Pauline reports that the Jets had been eyeing veteran G Rodger Saffold in free agency but the trade for Kelechi Osemele on Sunday now makes that an unnecessary move.
  • Connor Hughes reports that the Jets will certainly be in the market for a pass catcher this week and he continues to hear Cole Beasley connected to New York.
  • The NY Daily News’ Manish Mehta reports that the Jets’ brass are split on RB Le’Veon Bell, with some feeling like Bell isn’t worth the $15-$16 million per year he’ll demand or that he’s too risky given his career workload and history.
  • The general feeling is Bell is worth pursuing only to a point, and the Jets won’t be upset if another team outbids them for him.
  • Former Falcons RB Tevin Coleman is another potential RB target, but the Jets believe he’s a somewhat limited player who will also be overpaid.
  • The Jets will not cut LB Avery Williamson, whose $6 million contract is guaranteed, as the Jets seek upgrades at linebacker.  (Rich Cimini)

Patriots

According to his agent Drew Rosenhaus, Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski has not made a decision yet on if he will retire or return for the 2019 season.

“I talked to Rob last night and he won’t even tell me,” Rosenhaus said via Field Yates. “He hasn’t made a decision yet… I honestly don’t know. I’m waiting to see like everybody else.”

Rosenhaus says Gronkowski is feeling healthier and played through an injury in the Super Bowl.  If he does come back, Rosenhaus says he’ll still be effective.

“Personally I just want what’s best for Rob,” Rosenhaus said via Kevin Duffy. “I said, ‘Rob, take your time. Do what you believe in.’ He’s already the all-time greatest tight end, first-ballot Hall of Famer. There’s never been a tight end like this guy. Sky is the limit if he comes back”
