AFC North Notes: Bengals, Ravens, Steelers

Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals officially announced that they’ve hired Hue Jackson as a special assistant to HC Marvis Lewis.

“I have a great comfort level with Hue and his ability to assist me with the day-to-day responsibilities on defense, including analyzing our opponents and helping me on game days with the players and defensive coaches,” Lewis said of the hire.

Meanwhile, Jackson added: “I’m pleased to have the opportunity to join the Bengals this season. There is a lot of talent on this team, and I look forward to doing my part to help it finish the season strong.”

Ravens

  • According to Jay Glazer of The Athletic, some names to watch for the Ravens in the event they move on from HC John Harbaugh include Vikings OC John DeFilippo and Titans OC Matt LaFleur.
  • Glazer mentions that if the Ravens and Harbaugh do, in fact, part ways, it’s likely Harbaugh will be a top candidate for head-coaching jobs elsewhere.

Steelers

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert issued the following statement following the news that RB Le’Veon Bell did not report before the deadline.

“I want to confirm that Le’Veon Bell did not sign his Franchise Tender today and, as a result, he will not be eligible to play football during the 2018 season.”

  • Steelers HC Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that RB James Conner is still in concussion protocol, but Tomlin mentioned that he’ll be given an opportunity to practice on Wednesday and that should “lay those discussions to bed.” (Aditi Kinkhabwala)
