AFC Notes: Andrew Luck, Browns, Colts

Andrew Luck

  • According to Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star, Colts QB Andrew Luck has been dealing with shoulder issues dating back to the 2015 season.
  • In fact, Keefer says that Luck received painkilling shots on a weekly basis to remain on the field that season and continued to get them the following year.

Browns

Browns WR Jarvis Landry believes Cleveland is a playoff caliber team, but cited leadership and accountability as areas that could make or break things for the team this year.

Do we have the talent? Absolutely,” Landry said, via Nate Ulrich of the Beacon Journal. “But at the same time, it’s the little things — the leadership, the accountability — those little, small things are what make or break teams, especially in those late months, in November, December, when you’ve got to win those months. You’ve got to be on the plus side of those months for sure if you want to have any chance at making the playoffs.”

Colts

Colts DE John Simon said he is hopeful to lock down a starting role this season.

I hope I’m competing for a starting job. They want to make it very competitive, and as a player, as a competitor, that’s what you want,’’ said Simon, via Mike Chappell of CBS4Indy.

Colts DC Matt Eberflus said their defensive scheme is based around “athletic, speed players” in order to affect the passing game.

“The defense is built on the athletic, speed players that can affect the pass,’’ he said. “You always want to build it on rush and cover, for sure. When you have four guys humming, the ball comes out fast and then your athletic, speed players in the passing game affect the pass.’’
