AFC Notes: Bills, Colts, Jaguars

Bills

The Bills signed DE Mario Addison to a three-year contract worth $30.45 million with $13.25 million fully guaranteed this offseason.

Addison explained that the Bills are “very similar” to what they had in Carolina.

“I already kind of liked Buffalo from the get-go, and I saw the coaches and it was very similar to what we had in Carolina,” Addison said, per Sal Capaccio. “I liked to compete against that OL. I know they’ll make me better…..plus I love our colors. I’ll look good in that red for sure!”

Colts

  • Per Adam Walker of the team website, Colts HC Frank Reich said there should be zero transition time with QB Philip Rivers because of their previous familiarity: “It’s literally like riding a bike. … It’s just like we’ve never been (apart) the whole time.”
  • Reich mentioned there was “no update” regarding K Adam Vinatieri, who’s rehabbing a knee injury. Vinatieri remains a free agent while Indianapolis has Chase McLaughlin and UDFA Rodrigo Blankenship currently on the roster: “Just letting the rehab process finish its course before any final decision has been made, and then get together with Adam once he gets to that point.” (Joel Erickson)
  • On Monday, the Colts declined to pick up S Malik Hooker‘s fifth-year option. Earlier in the day, Reich said they expect “big things” from him in 2020: “I felt Malik’s presence on the field last year… I’m really excited and expecting big things from him this year.” (Stephen Holder)
  • Regarding the decision to sign veteran TE Trey Burton, Reich said: “I’m incredibly excited about Trey. … Trey is a big-time playmaking tight end. This guy is an incredible route runner, really smart and instinctive playmaker.” (Andrew Walker)

Jaguars

Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette was a buzzy name in trade rumors leading up to and during the draft a couple of weeks ago. However, he’s still on the team in Jacksonville even though the team made the decision to decline his fifth-year option. Now entering the final year of his contract, it’s still unclear if Fournette will get the chance to prove himself in Jacksonville or elsewhere. Jaguars HC Doug Marrone wouldn’t commit to anything, saying he just expects Fournette to be motivated in a contract year.

“Leonard’s done a good job for us, obviously. Really looking for the best from him,” Marrone said in an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I think the two things in the NFL that really get you at your best is when you create competition and when you’re going into the final year, final two years, of these contracts. You want to make sure you’re going to stay in this league for a long time and the whole goal is to get that second contract. I look at Leonard coming in here as a really motivated player.”
