AFC Notes: Bills, Jets, Patriots

Bills

Jets

Jets HC Adam Gase felt that he had a good relationship with S Jamal Adams prior to the safety’s criticism of him before getting traded to the Seahawks.

“I thought it was good, but obviously he felt different,” Gase said, via Al Iannazzone of Newsday.com. “I never had any poor interactions with him. He was somebody I talked to a lot and communicated with. Once the offseason hit, I’m not in charge of contracts. I’m not involved in those talks.”

Gase said he was surprised by Adams saying the coach wasn’t the “right leader” for the organization in an interview.

It just surprised me,” Gase said. “But it is what it is.”

Gase said he is unsure if he will approach Adams in their Week 14 game against the Seahawks.

“I don’t know how that’s going to go,” Gase said. “I try not to mess with too many guys before the game. I don’t know. We’ll see how it goes.”

Gase mentioned that the Jets, Seahawks, and Adams “got what they wanted” in the end.

Both sides got what they wanted,” Gase said. “At the end of the day, I think it will benefit both sides, too.”

  • Per Brian Costello of the New York Post, Jets HC Adam Gase said second-round WR Denzel Mims is out this week, as he won’t clear the testing protocols to return to the team in time to play after leaving for a family emergency.
  • Gase noted that he thought he and S Jamal Adams were in good standing before Adams ripped him publicly before his trade this summer: “I thought it was good … obviously he felt different.” (Connor Hughes)

Patriots

Patriots HC Bill Belichick confirmed that Cam Newton will continue starting for them.

Great question. Really glad you asked that. Cam’s our quarterback,” said Belichick, via Doug Kyed

When asked about Patriots QB Jarrett Stidham‘s development, Belichick said the second-year quarterback is still trying to “take advantage of his opportunities.”

“Jarrett has worked hard. He’s tried to take advantage of his opportunities. But that’s not really the point,” said Belichick, via Michael Giardi

Belichick clarified that there are situations where they could play Stidham, but they are “trying to win the game.”

Sometimes there are situations in a game where you can put someone in but we’re trying to win the game. That’s what we’re here for: is to win,” said Belichick, via Giardi.
