AFC Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Titans

Broncos

Now that the Broncos have officially passed on trading CB Chris Harris, the next stage in Denver’s relationship with the veteran corner comes this offseason when Harris’ deal expires. After negotiations that became tense at times this summer resulted in a reworked one-year deal for Harris, Broncos GM John Elway expressed more interest in locking up Harris this offseason.

“There were some inquiries on Chris, but we really felt that we’re still trying to win football games and the value wasn’t there, so we’re glad that we can keep Chris here,” Elway said Wednesday via the Broncos website. “I know his contract is up at the end of the year, but we’ll talk to him at the end of the year and see if we can get something done with him then.”

For his part, Harris was appreciative of the shift in tone regarding his future from the front office.

“It’s a lot better from what I’ve heard in the past,” Harris said. “To know that they want me to be here, that’s big for me. As a player, you always want to feel appreciated and you want to feel like the work that you put on the field is noted and appreciated.”

Chiefs

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes continues to be listed as limited at practice, which makes the already unlikely chances that he suits up Sunday against the Vikings even lower. Chiefs HC Andy Reid says he’s confident, and more important the rest of the team is confident, that backup QB Matt Moore can step in for Mahomes and continue to do well after nearly leading the team to a win against the Packers last week.

“I don’t know him as well as maybe the other guys, but I liked what I saw. He goes about it the right way,” Reid said via the Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell. “The players around him have confidence in him, which winds up being very important.”
