AFC Notes: Broncos, Dolphins, Jaguars, Titans

Broncos

Broncos RT Donald Stephenson said he took a second pay cut to remain on the team.

I kind of seen it coming (when he agreed to first restructure). But I knew it didn’t make it definite I was coming back. I have had a hell of a camp. And I figured that (a second restructure) would help me some. I think it definitely helps,” Stephenson said, via Troy E. Renck of Denver ABC7. “I am not going to hang my hat on anything. I am going to keep working and play my butt off this weekend and show what I am capable of doing.

Dolphins

  • Armando Salguero believes that Dolphins TE Thomas Duarte‘s concussion during Thursday’s preseason game could put his roster spot in jeopardy. Although, Salguero says the practice squad could be a possibility for Duarte.
  • Adam Caplan reports that the Dolphins signed veteran LB Rey Maualuga to a one-year, $900K contract with no guaranteed money. He’ll carry a cap figure of $615,000 for the 2017 season.

Jaguars

Jaguars HC Doug Marrone told reporters after Thursday’s preseason game that he isn’t going to pressure himself to name a starting quarterback in the coming days.

“I’ve got to do the best job for the organization and best job for the team,” Marrone said, via USA Today. “I’m not going to put that pressure on myself to say, ‘Hey, listen, I need to do this.’ I’ve got time. You’d like to make the decision quickly, but you want to make sure you make the right decision. That’s the most important thing.

Jaguars QB Blake Bortles admitted Thursday night that he “[doesn’t] know if it can get any worse than that” after he was benched in favor of Chad Henne during their preseason game against the Panthers.

“I don’t know if it can get any worse than that,” Bortles said, via Jaguars.com. “As a quarterback in the NFL, that’s probably the last thing you want to hear. I think you can roll over and lay down or you can keep working, grinding and trying to win that spot back. So, you have two options and I think you pick one and you go.

Titans

Titans HC Mike Mularkey said first-round WR Corey Davis (hamstring) is “coming along” and will be evaluated further once he can run without using equipment for assistance.

He is coming along,” said Mularkey, via Jim Wyatt of the Titans’ official site. “I think we are going to look a little harder after this game to see where he is at. He is running on (equipment) that’s not a real treadmill, but something that is at least taking the pressure off of his lower half. He is running pretty well with that, and when he starts running with a treadmill that will be a good (indication) of where we’re at with him.
