AFC Notes: Broncos, Raiders, Texans, Titans

Broncos

Broncos executive VP John Elway said that Chad Kelly has “done enough to secure that second spot.”

“Yep, I think so,” Elway said when asked if Kelly will be their backup, per Nicki Jhavbala of The Athletic. “We’ll see what happens tonight, but I think that Chad has done enough to secure that second spot for now. He’s worked his tail off this offseason, really done a great job and plays with that fire. I texted Jim Kelly the other night and I said, ‘He’s got that Kelly determination and competitiveness,’ and you can see it when he’s playing.”

Raiders

  • Jim Trotter of NFL Media hears that the Raiders are receiving offers for holdout DE Khalil Mack weighing them.
  • Trotter admits this is strange, considering that people in the Raiders’ organization have referred to Mack as the best player on their entire team.
  • Multiple league sources tell Jordan Schultz that they do not believe that Mack will be traded, given that the Raiders’ asking price is “enormous” and they believe they can contend this year.

Texans

  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Texans signed CB Kayvon Webster to a one-year deal worth $2.25 million that includes a $210,000 signing bonus and $500,000 guaranteed.
  • Webster will make a $790,000 base salary and have $290,000 guaranteed for skill and injury cap and up to $1.25 million available in roster bonuses. He’ll get $78,125  in per game active roster bonuses as well.
  • Adam Caplan reports that the Texans signed C/G Greg Mancz to a two-year extension worth $6 million.

Titans

  • Tom Pelissero reports that Titans second-round OLB Harold Landry got a second opinion from renowned specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, who diagnosed Landry with a mid/high-ankle sprain.
  • According to Pelissero, there is no serious damage to Landry’s ankle, but his status is uncertain for Week 1.
  • Paul Kuharsky adds that veteran OLB Derrick Morgan also unlikely to play in Week 1.
