AFC Notes: Bryce Huff, Eliot Wolf, Brian Belichick, Bills, Jets, Patriots

Bills

  • ESPN’s Katherine Terrell reports the Saints offered the WR coach job to former QB coach Ronald Curry to try and retain him, but he elected to take the QB coach and pass game coordinator position with the Bills.

Jets

  • The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt expects Jets DE Bryce Huff to find a bigger contract and a more significant role as a free agent than what the Jets will be able to offer. He points out New York already tried to re-sign Huff during the season but the two sides didn’t find a number they both liked.
  • Rosenblatt thinks both the Jets and OT Mekhi Becton are ready for a fresh start apart, and New York will also likely let DE Carl Lawson and CB Bryce Hall leave in free agency.
  • He adds both the Jets and S Jordan Whitehead would likely have some interest in a new deal for the right price, as he’s a veteran the coaches think highly of.
  • Rosenblatt thinks DT Quinton Jefferson has earned a bigger deal but still believes the Jets will be interested in keeping him. Fellow DT Solomon Thomas is in a similar boat, per Rosenblatt.
  • Rosenblatt writes both Jets K Greg Zuerlein and P Thomas Morstead had excellent seasons and may have earned deals in the top range of their position to return. For Zuerlein, that would be between $4 and $6 million per year and for Morstead it would be $2-$3 million a year.
  • Jets director of player personnel Chad Alexander is leaving New York to become the Chargers assistant general manager. (Connor Hughes)

Patriots

  • According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Patriots director of player personnel Eliot Wolf will be in charge of the personnel department and will work closely with HC Jerod Mayo. Patriots executive Matt Groh will handle college scouting and veteran scout Pat Stewart will be “heavily involved in all aspects.”
  • MassLive.com’s Mark Daniels, citing a source, reports it’s not totally clear what Wolf’s title will be going forward, but confirms he’s “at the top” of New England’s personnel department.
  • Rapoport reports the Patriots are also expected to hire University of Miami GM Alonzo Highsmith as a senior personnel executive.
  • CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reports the Patriots are targeting former Browns TEs coach T.C. McCartney as their next quarterbacks coach.
  • Aaron Wilson reports New England is hiring Texans staffer Bobby Brown for an executive role.
  • According to Wilson, New England is also hiring Browns assistant offensive line coach Scott Peters for a position on their staff.
  • Patriots safeties coach Brian Belichick will remain in New England in his current role, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
