Dolphins
- Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver said undrafted CB Storm Duck has “played himself” into the backup cornerback role, via Barry Jackson.
- When asked about what CB Cam Smith, Dolphins secondary coach Brian Duker said they want him to get into better shape: “The biggest thing I’ve talked to Cam about is we would like to see him put on the body armor to play a full shape. Needs to be in shape to do that. your body has to be in shape to do that.” (Barry Jackson)
Jets
- Jets WR Garrett Wilson recently expressed uncertainty about his future in New York. When asked about getting Wilson more targets, passing game coordinator Todd Downing said they need to get their playmakers more involved: “When we only score nine points, we gotta look at ways to get our playmakers the ball more. I feel like it is been a balance that we’ve done a pretty decent job of throughout the course of the year and, obviously, we want to get our guys involved as much as we can.” (Rich Cimini)
- As for WR Malachi Corley getting more of a shot, Downing responded they are still trying to win games and he’s “learning” to accept his role: “First of all, our priority is winning games, not evaluation. He certainly has gone through the season of wanting more opportunities, but I think he’s learning to handle that in better and more mature ways.”
Steelers
Steelers HC Mike Tomlin called their 29-10 loss to the Chiefs on Christmas “eerily similar” to their Week 16 loss to the Ravens.
“You know, that sucked, to be blunt,” Tomlin said, via Bob Labriola of the team’s site. “Not the type of ball we want to play, and really kind of eerily similar to our last performance in that we’re not doing the fundamental things well enough. We’re turning the ball over. We’re not getting turnovers. That hasn’t been a recipe for us, but it has been of late.”
Tomlin feels they are playing at a “junior varsity” level and they need to examine what they can be doing differently.
“So you can look at it from a lot of angles. The bottom line is junior varsity is not good enough,” said Tomlin. “We’ve got to own that. But we’ve also got to look at what it is we need to do different. We’re not going to continue to do the same things and hope for a different result. That doesn’t seem sharp to me. So we’re going to take a hard look at this. We’ve got a couple extra days before we get back into it. We’re going to take a look at it and make whatever necessary changes we need to make in the totality of this thing, because again, that doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t look good. That’s just the truth and reality of it.”
