AFC Notes: Jaguars, Texans, Titans

Jaguars

Texans

  • Aaron Reiss of The Athletic believes the Texans can improve on their run defense by playing less nickel defense packages on early downs.
  • Even when playing in nickel packages, Reiss notes that the Texans can move S Justin Reid into the box more frequently.
  • Regarding improvements the Texans’ offense could make, Reiss points out that QB Deshaun Watson has not been utilizing his escapability
  • Reiss could see the Texans using more empty sets in order to spread the field and use Watson’s ability as a runner.
  • As for the Texans potentially pursuing free-agent S Eric Reid, Reiss feels Houston would’ve approached him by now.

Titans

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the NFLPA and NFL officials are in Nashville on Friday to review the situation with the Titans and their COVID-19 issues.
  • NFL’s Allen Sills said of the Titans’ positive cases: “I would just say at this point that there are some symptomatic individuals but fortunately to this point they have been relatively mild symptoms and no one has required more intensive medical care.” (Mark Maske)
