AFC Notes: Travis Hunter, Chris Rodriguez, John Spytek, Jaguars, Raiders

Jaguars

Jaguars DC Anthony Campanile gave an encouraging update about CB Travis Hunter‘s health and workout plans this offseason.

“He’s getting back in the flow, back in the swing of things, and he looks good,” Campanile said, via JagsWire.com. “Like a lot of these guys, changed his body a little bit this offseason. The silver lining, obviously, you never want to see anybody get injured, but he put his best foot forward in the weight room, as he was recovering from a lower body injury and really built up his upper body and everything. So he just looks really physical in the team work and in the individual periods. He’s done a good job.”

“He’s got a lot of heavy lifting. He’s splitting time, so every second matters, every second counts,” Campanile added. “I think Matt Araujo has done a great job with him in that room, really just being super detailed, finding any second of the day to help him out from a fundamentals perspective and continuing to grow.”

Jaguars

The Jaguars signed RB Chris Rodriguez following his three years on the Commanders. Jacksonville HC Liam Coen expects his running style to shine when they begin full contact.

“What he brings to this team, I don’t think any of us are going to see throughout the entire training camp, honestly,” Coen said, via JaguarsWire. “Until we play tackle football, it’s going to be very difficult for all of us here to gain a true appreciation for who he is and what he does. I’ve seen it, so I do appreciate his skill set and what he brings. But just as a pro, he’s a good dude. He doesn’t say a ton, but he’s tough. He’s one of those glass-eaters. He is. He’s going to run through a wall for his teammates, for his coaches, for this organization when the time comes.”

As for Rodriguez missing time as he recovers from offseason surgery, Coen said its been tough on the running back to be out.

“He was so down,” Coen said. “It was a frustrating time, when you get here and get hurt on the first day. I think he was pleased just to be able to get out here, be with his teammates, take some coaching points, and knowing that the best of C-Rod will not be seen until the pads come on and we play tackle.”

Raiders

Raiders GM John Spytek has been pleased to see how recently signed players like LB Quay Walker, LB Nakobe Dean and EDGE Kwity Paye have built chemistry with players they brought back from last year.

“Watching Quay Walker and Nakobe Dean and Kwity Paye on defense mold with Maxx [Crosby], and with Jeremy Chinn, Malcolm Koonce, Eric Stokes, guys that have been here, has been cool,” Spytek said, via Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Spytek added that Maxx Crosby and their entire roster is healthy to start training camp.

“He reported on Thursday with everybody else and you didn’t see his name pop up on the PUP list, so that should be pretty indicative of what we’re trying to accomplish here,” Spytek said. “I mean, he could have easily said, ‘I’m gonna nurse this and I’ll be back mid-training camp or late August.’ But he wasn’t on the PUP, so yeah, that’s what we want. We want guys that want to be here, want to be in this building, want to work, want to be a part of building a team and being on the field as soon as they can. And we accomplished that. We didn’t have anybody on the PUP or NFI [non-football injury list] or any of it, at least with the guys returning from injury. And I don’t have any expectations on Tuesday when the rest of the group gets here that we’ll have that. I think we’re gonna have 91 guys on the grass.”
