AFC South Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Titans

Colts

Jaguars

Jacksonville broke a streak of 22 games without a 100-yard rusher on Sunday, as RB Leonard Fournette ran all over the Broncos for 225 yards in a win. The performance came a few days after Fournette and the coaching staff called out the offensive line, and the line seemed to respond well to the challenge.

“The O-line had a dinner Thursday and Brandon [Linder] and everybody else was like, ‘Man, we’re going to get you there this week,’” Fournette said via ESPN’s Michael DiRocco. “And I believe in them. And I think little things like that, just bonding outside of football, going to lunch with each other . . . and also getting trust back.”

Titans

Titans QB Marcus Mariota took some heat following Tennessee’s Thursday night loss to the Jaguars last week in which he took nine sacks. The former No. 2 overall pick is entering the last year of his deal, and his apparent failure to seize the reigns as the Titans franchise quarterback led to some thought the team could turn to backup QB Ryan Tannehill.

Mariota silenced the doubters for a week, though, throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns in a 24-10 win against the Falcons Sunday. He also has yet to throw an interception this season.

“We were happy to see Marcus get back to being Marcus,” Titans WR Corey Davis said via Jim Wyatt of the official team website. “Obviously that position comes with a lot of pressure, and they expect a lot out of you. But he always answers, and he answers the call pretty well. He did today. He stays confident and he is always going to lead us, and that is something I love about that guy.”

  • Per ESPN’s Field Yates, Titans OT Taylor Lewan will return from suspension this week.
  • Titans HC Mike Vrabel even noticed the different tenor around the team after the win: “I notice there’s not as many ‘fire the quarterback’ questions this week, so I appreciate that.” (Erik Bacharach)
