Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer Suffers Setback To Knee

Ed Werder of ESPN reports that Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer has been limited in practice this week due to swelling in his knee following a surgical scope that he underwent close to a month ago.

Spencer had the knee scoped performed during the first week of training camp and hasn’t practiced much since. He was aiming to be ready for the Cowboys Sunday night opener against the Giants, but it appears as though he’ll be unavailable this weekend. His status for Week 2 also looks to be up in the air at this point in time.

Dallas’ defensive line is already without T Jay Ratliff has already been ruled out for Sunday night as well.

Spencer, 29, received the Cowboys franchise tag worth $10.627 million. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent following the season, so he obviously has a lot on the line this season. Dallas has shown some interest in working out an extension, but they’ll probably wait until the offseason before deciding on anything.

We have Spencer listed as the No. 16 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.
