Bears RB Matt Forte Looking To Best Marshawn Lynch’s Recent Contract

Sean Jenson of the Chicago Sun-Times writes that the recent contract that Marshawn Lynch‘s received from the Seattle Seahawks figures to to be the “floor” in regards to a contract extension for Bears RB Matt Forte.

Seattle gave Lynch a four-year deal worth $32 million and includes $18 million guaranteed. Forte has been said to be looking for a deal that would include over $20 million in guarantees which could make Arian Foster‘s recent five year, $43.5 million extension, that guarantees him $20.75 million over the duration of the deal, a better comparison.

New Bears GM Phil Emery said that they plan to keep Forte “in 2012 and beyond” but that will require them to actually engage in serious negotiations instead of making statements through the media.
