Just two years and $15.5 millionย of Allen’s contract areย fully guaranteed, so the Bears have built in some protection into the deal.
The Seahawks and Cowboys both met with Allen who was reportedly taking his time to decide on his next team. The Bears came up as a speculative option, but there wasn’t a lot of buzz surrounding them in recent weeks, so this move does comes as a bit of a surprise.
Allen joins Lamarr Houston and Willie Young as the new additions to the Bears rebuilt defensive line.
Allen, 31, has been an extremely productive player during his time in Minnesota, and although his 2013 season wasn’t as good as years past, he still manged to record 11.5 sacks,ย 52 tackles and two forced fumbles.
Pro Football Focusย has Allen rated as the No. 34 among qualifying 4-3 defensive ends.ย We had him listed as the No. 1 playerย in ourย Best Available Free Agents list.
