Bears Sign DE Jared Allen

The Chicago Bears announced earlier this morning that they have reached an agreement with DE Jared Allen on a four-year contract worth $32 million.

Just two years and $15.5 million of Allen’s contract are fully guaranteed, so the Bears have built in some protection into the deal.

The Seahawks and Cowboys both met with Allen who was reportedly taking his time to decide on his next team. The Bears came up as a speculative option, but there wasn’t a lot of buzz surrounding them in recent weeks, so this move does comes as a bit of a surprise.

Allen joins Lamarr Houston and Willie Young as the new additions to the Bears rebuilt defensive line.

Allen, 31, has been an extremely productive player during his time in Minnesota, and although his 2013 season wasn’t as good as years past, he still manged to record 11.5 sacks, 52 tackles and two forced fumbles.

Pro Football Focus has Allen rated as the No. 34 among qualifying 4-3 defensive ends. We had him listed as the No. 1 player in our Best Available Free Agents list.
