Should Simmons clear waivers on Monday, he would revert to the Bears’ injured reserve list.
Simmons, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Limestone College back in May. He later agreed to a three-year, $1.755 million contract with the Bears.
During his five-year college career at Limestone, Simmons recorded 224 tackles, 15 interceptions, 50 pass defenses, four forced fumbles, and three recoveries over the course of 44 games.
