Latest On Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger

Adam Schefter reports that a decision regarding whether Steelers’ QB Ben Roethlisberger will need elbow surgery is expected today.

According to Schefter, Roethlisberger wants to avoid surgery at all costs, but it will ultimately be determined by doctors whether that’s possible.


The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Sunday that QB Ben Roethlisberger sustained a right elbow injury during the first half of Week 2’s game against the Seahawks and he’s questionable to return.

Roethlisberger has been replaced by QB Mason Rudolph to open the second half.

It’s worth mentioning that Roethlisberger is on the sideline, but Rudolph is now operating as the Steelers’ quarterback.

Roethlisberger, 37, is a former first-round pick of the Steelers back in 2004. He was in the second year of his five-year, $99 million contract he finalized a three-year, $68 million contract this offseason that included a $37.5 million signing bonus.

Roethlisberger stands to make base salaries of $2,500,000 and $8,500,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

Entering today’s game, Roethlisberger had appeared in one game and completed 57.4 percent of his passes for 276 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
