Bengals Hosting DT Mike Daniels, Expected To Sign If Everything Checks Out

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that former Lions’ and Packers’ Pro Bowl DT Mike Daniels is visiting with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Schefter says that if the visit goes as planning, it’s expected that Daniels will sign with the Bengals.

Daniels has been one of the best available free agents for months now. However, there has been very little reported interest in him up to this point.

Back in May, Daniels said in an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that teams had shown “soft interest” in him, due in part to the fact that they can’t bring him in for a medical evaluation.

“There’s been a decent amount of interest,” Daniels said. “There’s been soft interest. As in, teams like you but they can’t bring you in and let their doctors check you out.”

Daniels, 31, is a former fourth-round pick of the Packers back in 2012. He was entering the final year of his five-year, $41.66 million contract and set to make a base salary of $7.6 million for the 2019 season when the Packers released him.

Daniels signed a one-year, $9.1 million deal with the Lions for the 2019 season. He’s been testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent since March.

In 2019, Daniels appeared in nine games for the Lions and recorded 10 tackles and one sack.

We have him included in our Top 100 Available 2020 Free Agents list.
