The Cincinnati Bengals officially placed LB Rey Maualuga on the non-football injury list Tuesday.
Maualuga will still count against the team’s 90-man roster limit, but this is likely a temporary move.
Maualuga, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Bengals back in 2009. He’s currently in the second year of his three-year, $15 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $4.1 million for the 2016 season.
In 2015, Maualuga appeared in 15 games for the Bengals and recorded 75 tackles, one interception, a fumble recovery and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 16 linebacker out of 97 qualifying players.
