Bengals Place LB Vontaze Burfict On I.R. & Activate QB A.J. McCarron

The Cincinnati Bengals announced Tuesday that they have officially placed LB Vontaze Burfict on season-ending injured reserve and activated rookie QB A.J. McCarron from the reserve/non-football injury list.

Burfict’s 2014 season has largely disappointing as he’s dealt with numerous injuries and concussions.

Burfict, 24, signed a four-year, $20 million extension with the Bengals this offseason and has recorded 18 tackles, a forced fumble and a recovery over the course of three games.

His 2014 season ends with him recorded 29 tackles, one forced fumble and a recovery over the course of five games.

Cincinnati used a fifth-round pick on McCarron back in May, but he was unfortunately placed on the NFI list right before the start of the regular season due to a shoulder injury.

It will be interesting to see if he’s given an opportunity to compete for the starting job in 2015, as Andy Dalton has yet to take the next step in his development.
