Bengals Sign Veteran TE Alex Smith

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed veteran TE Alex Smith to a contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan.

A recent report from Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com mentioned that the Bengals had been in contact with Smith in recent weeks, but they were “monitoring” his rehab from a dislocated wrist right now.

Smith, 32, was Cincinnati’s No. 3 option at tight end last year. He appeared in all 16 games, but only caught three passes for 12 yards while also contributing on special teams.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as a below-average tight end who struggled to be an effective receiver last season.
