Brandon Weeden Could Return As Early As Next Week

ESPNโ€™s Adam Schefter reports that after meeting with doctors it was determined that Browns QB Brandon Weeden has sprained right thumb that will not require surgery.

  • According to Schefter, Weeden could return as early as next week.

Cleveland has already named Brian Hoyer their Week 3 starter against the Vikings, which is a bit of surprise given that Jason Campbell has been listed as their backup quarterback for weeks.

HC Rob Chudzinski suggested that Weeden wonโ€™t be guaranteed the starting job once his injured thumb is healed.

โ€œIโ€™m going to leave all of the options open,โ€ said Chudzinski, via ClevelandBrowns.com. โ€œItโ€™s a matter of where heโ€™s at from a health standpoint โ€” all of that plays into it โ€” where weโ€™re at and how guys are playing, as well.โ€
