Bills Waive WRs Kelvin Benjamin & WR Andre Holmes

The Buffalo Bills announced Tuesday that they’ve waived WRs Kelvin Benjamin and Andre Holmes and signed DE Mike Love.

The Bills also promoted CB Denzel Rice to their active roster and placed C Russell Bodine on injured reserve.

It was clear that Benjamin wasn’t going to be back with the Bills next year, given that he had come up as a trade candidate for the deadline. However, it’s somewhat surprising to see them move on from him now.

Benjamin, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.66 million contract that includes $6.19 million guaranteed when the Panthers picked up his fifth-year option last year.

Carolina elected to trade Benjamin to the Bills third- and seventh-round picks last year.

In 2018, Benjamin has appeared in 12 games for the Bills and caught 23 passes for 354 yards receiving and one touchdown.

Holmes, 30, originally signed on with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Hillsdale back in 2011. He lasted just a month in Minnesota before catching on with the Cowboys at the start of the season when he signed to their practice squad.

After a brief stint with the Patriots, Holmes was claimed off waivers by the Raiders and spent four years in Oakland before signing a three-year, $5.15 million contract with the Bills last year.

In 2018, Holmes has appeared in 12 games for the Bills and caught 12 passes for 157 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
